  At Coast Mountain College, we commit to creating and maintaining a learning and working environment characterized by mutual respect, civility, safety and free inquiry.

  Safety is our priority and any form of sexual violence or misconduct is not tolerated.

  Victims of sexual violence are treated with compassion, dignity and respect.

• Incident reporting

  If you witness or experience an unsafe incident please tell a staff member. By telling someone you will make Coast Mountain College a safer and more secure place for everyone. If you are a Student you can speak to any staff member of the Student Services Team and/or Security. If you are an Employee, please report the incident to your Supervisor, Manager and/or Human Resources. If you are a visitor, please speak to someone at the front desk in registration.

• Night Security​

  At the Terrace Campus, CMTN Security is on duty at Wii Gyemsiga Siwilaawksat Student Housing and around the Terrace campus complex.

• E-Safety

  Social media, electronic communications and websites have become particularly rich sources of information for trolls, cyber-bullies and criminals. The College takes the safety and security of students and employees online data very seriously.

  If you experience any cyber-bullying, hacking, equipment theft/tampering, or threatening online misconduct please let the Student Services Team and the IT Department know about it immediately.

  Remember to play it safe and back up your important documents on a regular basis. Never share your passwords with anyone. It is important to change your passwords from time-to-time and secure your devices.

• Lock it up

  As simple as it sounds, Coast Mountain College highly recommends to always lock your doors and windows when you are away from your dorm room or office work station.

  In the event that locking up your doors is not enough to protect your valuables, please consider purchasing other locking devices such as a small safe or lock-box for your laptop to ensure your computer security.

  Another way to secure your devices is to utilize security features on your device. For example, make sure your phone needs a password to use it. Don't give criminals an easy way into your private devices.

• ​ALERTUS safety app

  When an emergency strikes at CMTN, all staff and students can receive potentially life-saving notifications from Alertus.

  To install Alertus onto your devices follow these steps.

• ID cards

  All students and staff are issued an ID card. You will use this card to gain access to the College as well as borrow books from the library.

  You must carry this with you at all times while at Coast Mountain College; please do not share your card with anyone. If you are asked to show your card to any member of staff please do so. This will display your identification number and prove you are a student.

  If you lose your ID card you may be charged a replacement fee. Staff will also wear a staff ID card. Anyone not able to show their ID card will be asked to explain who they are and why they are in College and taken to reception. In this way we can ensure that the College is a safe environment for you to study, visit, work and reside in.

• Emergency closures ​

  In the rare event that the College is forced to close, usually because of bad weather, students will be notified with as much notice as possible.
